Writing lyrics

You know what's better that perfect? Because there is something better than perfect. It's called "Being Done." I've written perfect lyrics before...yes, I said "perfect." Words of such magnitude and brilliance that all other words merely cowered in the corner and couldn't walk over to sit down on the fucking paper. So those songs never got finished...or haven't yet.

I never kept a notebook, even though there have been times when I got song ideas I knew were solid and then lost them because they came to me when I was mowing the lawn or fishing or something. I'm sure if I'd kept a notebook with me, I'd have a lot more songs, but I'm just not disciplined enough to be bothered. But now I have a phone with me at all times, and I can take notes in it. Most of us do. It works.

But for the most part, songs come to me when I'm holding a guitar and playing something. I start with just vowel sounds and gibberish. If I like the melody enough, I'll keep playing long enough for a few words to form out of those vowels, and then I can usually finish, but it's work. I can write funny or witty lyrics really fast, but I fucking hate novelty songs, so there's that problem.

I usually get hung up on the 2nd verse. Best way to get over that is to make the first verse that you've already written the 2nd verse and then write into it. Works more often for me than it doesn't.

Vowels into a few words into an idea...then the rest just happens...after a lot of work.

Also, if you can find a distraught chick to send you poetry that doesn't rhyme, then it's even more work.

I think the Finnish AKEX cast is complete now. Has the new bass player shown up yet though? I may be missing one of the actors.

I hope they've got some good writers for their pilot episode.

It certainly isn't up to par with the American version.

At least not yet.

I'm gonna hold judgement until the first mp3 and video debut of the "band" is posted.
